During Monday’s intense dust storm in Ghatkopar, a large billboard toppled, leaving eight people dead and thirty-five injured. According to the police, at least 20 people are thought to be trapped beneath the billboard debris that fell on the gas station across from it.
The authorities of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are investigating whether the billboard advertising agency was authorized to erect the building. The metal frame of the billboard tore through the roofs of multiple cars, killing or seriously injuring a number of automobile occupants as well as gas station employees.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has joined the rescue effort, while gas cutters and cranes are being utilized to search beneath the debris for any survivors, according to BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. For medical assistance, injured people were brought to Rajawadi Hospital, which is managed by BMC.
