The 3rd ODI between Australia vs England also became the final match as before both the team has won 1-1. The fabulous centuries from Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell inspired Australia to a dramatic three-wicket victory over England.
The pair of Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell put on 212 runs for the sixth wicket after Australia had collapsed to 73-5 chasing a stiff target of 303 runs and clinched the one-day international series 2-1.
After England losing their first two wickets to the opening two balls Jonny Bairstow’s 112 manage England to score 302 for seven wickets in their 50 overs.
Australia lost their first five wickets in 73 runs but fought back brilliantly to win with two balls left against the world champion England and mete out to their first home one-day series defeat for five years.
England went through the worst start as Jason Roy got a thick outside edge to backward point and Joe Root was also got trapped lbw by Mitchell Starc off the first two balls of the innings.
However, Jonny Bairstow’s 112 manage England to score 302 and pushed the run rate above six per over.
A 114-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Bairstow and Sam Billings (54) and Chris Woakes rapid half-century provided the backbone of the innings and managed to score 302.
Australia also went through the worst start till the 17th over Australia were reeling on 73/5. The 212 run partnership between Alex Carey and Glenn Maxwell dragged Australia right back into the match.
When Tom Curran caught Maxwell top-edged by spinner Adil Rashid and for 108 off 90 balls and ten balls later Carey was caught by Mark Wood at third man off Jofra Archer for 106 at that time Australia need 21 runs off the last 18 balls for victory.
In the final, over England captain, Eoin Morgan entrusted to Rashid while Australia needs ten runs to win. Mitchell Starc smacked a six off Rashid’s first ball and hit another boundary to win the game.
Since 2015 England had won 11 of their past 14 matches against Australia. This is the first time that Australia won the bilateral ODI series over England.
