Barcelona has been demanding a face to face meeting with Lionel Messi to convince him to stay. Messi’s father who is also his agent along with Messi is expected in Barcelona and the club hopes to sit with Messi and have a face to face talk.
Messi has been offered a two years contract extension, a club official mentioned. Considering the anonymity because the person is not allowed to speak in public regarding matters like this.
Two years contract extended from 2022 – 2023. The player had already agreed to it before as reported by the official. Barcelona and Messi still have to make a conversation on this.
He made the announcement of leaving the club 11 days after the season ended with 8-2 loss from Bayern Munich in quarter-finals of Champion League. The humiliating defeat has been the first since 2007.
Messi took up with clause that said he could be set free at the end of the season but Barcelona said the clause expired in June. Messi’s lawyers have to still convince of that the match shifted due to the Pandemic.
Barcelona wants Messi to remain in the club and they are not planning to negotiate a transfer. His contract will end in 2021 June with a payout of 736 million Euros.
Barcelona said they weren’t looking for any possible transfer but they are open to negotiating for the players like Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal and Samuel Umtiti.
Barcelona will start the new season against Villarreal in the Spanish league by the end of September.
