Action will be taken against a person involved in cheating, seducing, threatening or altering someone else through marriage. To convert, a declaration must be issued months in advance. No one can convert to a mother-in-law’s house directly or after marriage. The Madhya Pradesh government has made this rule.
To this end, the Shivraj Singh government has introduced the Madhya Pradesh Release Freedom Act. Which carries a jail term of up to ten years and a fine of up to Rs one lakh.
It also stipulates that a person cannot be forced to marry for the purpose of converting. Under the proposed law, anyone who wants to convert must submit a declaration to the district magistrate at least a month in advance.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a meeting on Saturday. In which the proposed law is discussed. Converting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is punishable by imprisonment.
Only the blood relatives of the converts can complain. The proposed law stipulates that another sub-inspector of rank can investigate the case from police officer to superior officer.
