Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest festival of the cricket fans, which is going to start from today 19 September. The opening match is between the four-times champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and three times champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Coming to the flashback of 2019 IPL final match between CSK VS MI where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) need two to defend their title while Mumbai Indians (MI) are in search of a dot ball. MI star Lasith Malinga bowls a perfect slower one which Shardul Thakur fails to connect and got LBW and MI become champions for a record fourth time.
MI has been CSK’s Achilles heel. In the 2019 IPL season CSK loss all four matches including the play-offs and the final from MI. MI is the only team against which CSK have lost more matches than they have won.
Malinga will not be available in this year IPL. However, MI coach Mahela Jayawardene puts it they are “ready for action”. MI will again come with outstanding team combination with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik and Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and some firepower added too, said Jayawardene.
If needed Chris Lynn may be promoted to top order to add some strength, then Rohit Sharma would be pushing down the order to add stability to the middle-order.
The bowling line-up of MI has been spruced up with left-arm quickie Trent Boult, Nathan Counter-Nile, who is a good hitter too, Dhawal Kulkarni and James Pattinson (replacement for Malinga).
Since MI has been landed in UAE, they are on top of their preparations, but the same can’t be said about CSK. CSK’s most experienced player and middle-order mainstay Suresh Raina and spinner Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the tournament due to their Personal reasons.
When CSK reaches UAE 13 of their personal got tested positive along with frontline seamer Deepak Chahar and the whole team got quarantine, so there is a lack of practice in CSK side.
Pulling out of Raina, who is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL’s history, will be a big blow to CSK middle-order. There will be either Rayudu or Jadhav can replace Raina at No 3. The other option is Gaikwad from Maharashtra and teammate of Jadhav, who is yet to get a green signal to resume practice.
