Dr. Suravi’s foray into the medical field began with the dream of earning an MBBS degree. However, fate had other plans, guiding her toward dentistry. “We were preparing for medical aid and then eventually got into dentistry,” she recalls. This twist of fate led her to discover her true calling in orthodontics, a field that perfectly blended her interests in medical science and aesthetics. “After getting into this field, I started exploring and now I’m happy that I’ve ended up in this beautiful profession.”
With 14 years of experience, Dr. Suravi has witnessed significant changes in the field of orthodontics. “The modality has changed a lot. From traditional braces to aligners, the advancements are remarkable,” she notes. However, she points out that awareness among patients remains a challenge. “People often see orthodontics as just about braces. They are unaware of dentofacial orthopedics and the full scope of preventive and interceptive orthodontics.”
Despite these advancements, she emphasizes the need for greater patient education. “Treatment duration and costs are major challenges. Patients want quick results without understanding the time and investment required for quality treatment.
Operating primarily in urban areas, Dr. Suravi sees a significant potential in reaching out to the rural parts of Orissa. “Orthodontics in Orissa is limited to urban townships. There is a need for more awareness and accessibility in peri-urban and rural areas,” she explains. To address this, she collaborates with government programs, educating local health workers and schoolchildren about the importance of early orthodontic intervention.
What sets Embrace Orthodontics apart from other clinics is its comprehensive approach and state-of-the-art technology. “We practice all kinds of advanced orthodontics, from Invisalign and clear aligners to lingual orthodontics, where braces are placed behind the teeth,” Dr. Suravi says. She envisions expanding Embrace Orthodontics within Bhubaneswar and possibly beyond. “We might come up with two to three more clinics in Bhubaneswar. Orthodontics is a growing market, and awareness is increasing,” she predicts.
As a successful female entrepreneur, Dr. Suravi is a strong advocate for women empowerment. Her message to young women entrepreneurs is clear: “Empowerment is not just about achieving professional success; it’s about balancing it with personal responsibilities. Women are different from men in this aspect, and that’s where true empowerment lies.”
