The second-highest number of man-elephant conflict incidences occur in West Bengal, where at least 430 people have been murdered by elephants between 2015–16 and 2019–20.A town that has endured numerous attacks from elephants over the past year, resulting in five fatalities, is being protected by the West Bengal forest department with the installation of about 12 kilometres of electrified fencing.According to officials, Jhargram has been in the headlines frequently in the past year due to an increase in elephant assaults. According to them, at least five deaths occurred inside the municipal town while at least 25 deaths were reported in the Jhargram forest division.
