With Maharashtra contributing 50% of them despite a partial lockdown and the top 10 Indian states accounting for 92% of these cases, India is currently recording the highest number of daily active cases in the world.
The year 2020 is back, but this time it’s deadlier, particularly in India, where the number of cases is increasing and the second wave of the pandemic is breaking all previous records for that nation. Maharashtra’s state government has declared a “strict lockdown” over the weekends due to an increase in daily Covid-19 cases. The weekend lockdown will begin at 8 p.m. today and last until 7 a.m. on Monday. Additionally, the state has a nighttime curfew that is in effect from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. every day, during which only essential services are permitted to run.
The majority of states, including UP, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi, and others, now have restrictions in place, but the way the government is handling this situation is not at all commendable. The authorities claim that strict action will be taken against defaulters, but in reality, people are even evading quarantines by paying off officials, despite the fact that gatherings are officially prohibited. On the condition that they receive vaccinations, which are also age-restricted due to low stock, it appears that the people are currently being left essentially to their own devices.
