In Conversation with the author of “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz” – Amin Masih

Amin Masih is one of the few wonderful writers who has a beautiful command over the Hindi Language. He has written a beautiful book “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz. Let us know more about him.

Q1) How did you understand your calling as an author ? What was your first writing experience ?

I’ve been fond of reading books since childhood. I used to read comic books when I was a kid. Since I was a kid of the 90s, Raj comics and Diamond comics were very popular in that era. Both my father and grandfather were also fond of reading books. They used to read Hindi pulp fictions, especially crime and thriller novels written by the noted Hindi pulp fiction writers Ved Prakash Sharma and Surender Mohan Pathak. When I grew up and tuned 12, I started reading pulp fictions. This may sound a bit strange as those books were not meant for children. But it helped me become a writer. I often thought I could write a book, and I wrote a science fiction children’s novel when I was in the 7th  grade .To me it was a novel, but considering the word count, it was actually a story. And this was my first writing experience. Although I self-published my first short story eBook on Amazon in 2018, four years after my graduation.

Q2) How did you decide the plot for “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz”. Give us a short brief about the book .

To be honest, I never knew how to write poetry. I write short stories. I never thought of writing poetry or self-publishing a poetry collection, but this miracle happened when I started writing on YourQuote. Once I started writing poems on that app, I went on writing poems one by one. One day, a great idea came to my mind. There are many issues in the society and in the country. We want to say a lot but cannot say because no one listens to us. Such things happen to me too. I had already written a lot of poetries on YourQuote which focus on various social and political issues. So, I decided to write a poetry collection so that I can spread awareness and love among the people of our society and nation. I collected all my poems and sent them to the publisher. And the result is in front of you as “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz”. My book “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz” is a collection of poems written on various social and political issues going on in our country and the world. 60 poems are compiled in the book.  The poems written in the book highlight the current social and political issues going on in the country. My poems do not target any religion, caste, faith, individual or political party. The basic objective of the book is to entertain the readers as well as bring awareness in the society.

Q3) Nowadays a majority of the youth is much more focused on social media rather than reading books. What is your view on this topic ?

I have always advocated social media. It is a great platform to share knowledge, information and your skills and hidden talents. As we are moving forward, our systems are also being upgraded. In this digital age, everything is getting digital and books are no exception. Although I don’t prefer eBooks over paperbacks, I do favor eBooks as they are easy to carry and can be easily stored on your phone. Also the eBook format has helped many aspiring authors to get their books published. The KDP is an example of this. And as far as today’s youth are concerned, they are more sensible now. They know how to use social media properly. Many youth read, write and share quotes, poetries and short stories on social media. There are some youths who have a bookshelf in their bedroom. Overall, I would like to say that there is a need to use both platforms wisely. Every platform has its own importance.

Q4) Kindly attach the links of your book so that the readers can get a grasp on these beautiful reads.

It will be my pleasure to share the links of my book. Here are the links:- Amazon Flipkart

Q5) We know that there is a lot of hardwork that goes behind the launching of books .From preparing the final manuscript to writing the first draft till publishing. Tell us how your experience was and to whom would you dedicate your success in this entire process?

As I said earlier, I never thought of publishing my own poetry collection. I have always wanted to have a novel published. But when I joined YourQuote and started writing poems, my writing skills improved. I used to write poems on my smartphone in the office where I work as an Accounts Executive for earning. So, I wrote my book “Meri Kalam Meri Awaaz”, partly at home and partly in my office. Whenever some lines came to my mind, I would take out my phone and write on YourQuote app. That’s how I finished my writing and started editing my manuscript myself. I find editing to be a more difficult task than writing as I experienced throughout the writing and publishing process. But thanks to my publisher whose team did a great job of formatting my manuscript perfectly. Lastly, I would like to dedicate my book to “YourQuote” which helped me a lot in writing my book. I would like to suggest my fellow writers and budding writers to try this app at least once.
