On August 10, former President Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital and had surgery the same day to remove a clot in the brain. Today a hospital in Delhi said health has worsened after a lung infection.
Now the former president is in a coma since brain surgery earlier this month. Since yesterday, his health deteriorates, and now he is being managed by a team of specialists in septic shock due to his lung infection.
Abhijit Mukherjee, son of Pranab Mukharjee, who has been tweeting regular updates on his health, urged everyone to pray for his father and say that his father is in “critical” condition, but all his vital parameters are stable.
Last week, Mr. Mukherjee developed a lung infection and had been on ventilator support.
When he was admitted to the hospital on August 10, he also tested positive for COVID-19 in hospital. He also twitted that for his COVID-19 positive and requests the people who came in contact with him in the last week to self-isolate and got tested for COVID-19.
According to the doctor, Mr. Mukherjee developed a lung infection and renal dysfunction over the past few days.
After the news of his surgery, wishes poured in from across the country, and several leaders sent their wishes on Twitter. Special prayers were organized in his ancestral village in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
Pranab Mukherjee served as President of India from 2012 to 2017 and also awarded the Bharat Ratna – India’s highest civilian award – last August.
