Now things have changed over the week. Team India is now on the hot seat with a couple of wins; India has staged a gutsy comeback in the tour to stand on the verge of a T20 series victory.
After the 2-1 defeat in the ODI series, India takes the lead 1-0 lead in the T20 series. India would be keen to win the 2nd T20 game as the debate surrounding Yuzvendra Chahal being brought on as Ravindra Jadeja’s concussion substitute refusing to die down.
From 152/5, India ended up posting 302 and from 92/5, finished on 161/7; with these two remarkable comebacks, all credit goes to Indian batting. However, Jadeja was the key to both revivals; after Jadeja being ruled out, India’s batting has received a major jolt. Due to this, India’s top six to put up a better show to seal the deal.
In the Australian camp, the injury list has grown. After David Warner and Ashton Agar, their captain Aaron Finch has been gripped by injury and remains a doubtful starter. If Finch misses out, Matthew Wade is likely to take over.
With no Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will have to take the responsibility. Cameron Green has been released to play for Australia A, so there may be short in an all-rounder.
India: The opening combination is likely to remain the same, and Manish Pandey’s place at No. 5. In the bowling department, Jadeja was replaced by Chahal due to injury. Virat Kohli also hinted that Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah would be rotated in view of workload management.
Probable Playing XI: Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul (WK), Virat Kohli (Capt), Sanju Samson, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, T Natarajan, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal
Australia: If Finch will be unavailable, Wade is the prime candidate to open the batting with D’Arcy Short, which gives Australia the option to include Alex Carey in the middle order. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been added to the squad. For the second spinner’s slot, Lyon will give the competition to Mitchell Swepson.
Probable Playing XI: Matthew Wade (Capt), D’Arcy Short, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Moises Henriques, Alex Carey (WK), Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson/Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
