IPL 2020: CSK VS KKR: “I played IPL until I was 39,” Ashish Nehra doesn’t feel CSK need a fix-up

For the first time in the memoir of Indian Premier League (IPL), Captain Cool MS Dhoni leads Chennai Super Kings won’t compete in the playoffs. They are out of the qualification race, following eight losses from 13 games.

Mighty CSK has a massive commotion on social media. CSK players are getting criticized for being rusty on the field and struggling with their fitness and skipper MS Dhoni as well. Discovering the ‘spark in youngsters’ has now stoked the idea of getting the squad fixed up in 2021.

A majority of CSK stars are either 35 or nearing forty. But former CSK bowler Ashish Nehra has something else to say on the age factor of Dhoni and others. He believes that the age of (30-35) is not something that should matter.

Ashish Nehra is one of the finest Indian pacers who challenged the age factor with his hard work and played international cricket until he was 39. One lousy season for mighty CSK shouldn’t be a parameter to measure veteran player’s capabilities.

On Star Sports, Ashish Nehra said, “We have seen in the IPL, people talk about CSK players being 30-35 and on the wrong side of 35. But we have seen what they are capable of doing. It is just one season, and I hope we see the old CSK again next season. MS Dhoni knows how to take it in his stride. We are talking about a mentally strong guy. I don’t think it is that big a deal for him. It hurts when you don’t qualify. But I hope we see MS Dhoni again and the same old CSK.”

“I don’t think so big reshuffle happening next year. Age 30-35 is not old. Somebody like me, I played IPL until I was 39. And if with my body, as a fast bowler, I can play at the age of 39, they can play for longer. Maybe Shane Watson, we still hope for his presence next year. Apart from that, I don’t think they will look to shuffle it too much,” Nehra further added.

However, CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets and won their second match in a row as well. Ruturaj Gaekwad scored 72 runs off 53 balls while Ravindra Jadeja became the super striker of the game by hitting two sixes in a row and seal the deal for CSK.
