Kings XI Punjab’s (KXIP) back in form has coincided with the introduction of explosive West Indies batsman Chris Gayle into the playing XI. It is just not the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle batting that back the form but the positive impact that he has on his teammates with his cheerful personality.
Gayle again showed his power-hitting ability and scored 51 runs just off 21 balls to lead his side to an eight wickets victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). That commanding victory of KXIP has taken them to the fourth spot in the IPL points table above KKR.
After the commanding victory against KKR, KXIP skipper KL Rahul lauded Chris Gayle and said that the left-handed West Indies batsman non-other than ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle who always keeps the dressing room upbeat.
At the post-match presentation skipper, KL Rahul said, “Chris Gayle, it was a very hard decision not to play him, He is the hungriest I have seen in the last seven-eight years playing for different franchises. Running ones and twos. And you know how he keeps the dressing room upbeat. To do it over and over again, year after year. We will enjoy tonight’s victory, enjoy tomorrow, and then start thinking about the next game. One game at a time.”
With the help of opener Mandeep Singh (66*) and Chris Gayle (51), KXIP chased 150 runs quickly and sealed the deal with eight wickets in hand and seven balls to spare.
On Friday Mandeep Singh lost his father and still play for the Punjab franchise. On being asked about this “The kind of toughness Mandeep has shown has rubbed on to other ways. Everybody is emotional. But he put his hand up, just to be there, just to finish off the game, makes us so proud” KL Rahul said on Mandeep.
Shubman Gill played a fighting knock of 57 runs as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) able to post a total of 149/9 in the allotted twenty overs.
However, KXIP beat all top four of the points table and kept their hope of qualifying for the playoffs alive.
