The IPL match no 39 between KKR VS RCB witnessed several seasonal lows- lowest powerplay score (17/4) and lowest innings score (84/8) due to a woeful batting show from KKR batsmen.
However, all credits goes to Mohammed Siraj for his sensational bowling performance in the powerplay. In the history of IPL, no bowler had ever bowled two maidens in the same innings that Mohammed Siraj achieved the unprecedented feat with his first two overs.
Siraj didn’t just bowl a dozen consecutive dot balls, take three wickets as well, and sent KKR to back foot (14/4), which they wouldn’t recover in Abu Dhabi. Sensational Siraj (3/8-4over) bowled superbly and tore up KKR top order.
Mohammed Siraj in his first over bowled an outswinger to Rahul Tripathi, and Tripathi nicked the ball into the safe mittens of AB de Villiers. Then lefty Nitish Rana walked in, and with an inswinger, Siraj uprooted Rana’s off-stump to send back him a duck. His first over ended in a double-wicket maiden.
However, Navdeep Saini got rid of Shubman Gill in the following over, and Tom Banton hit Saini for a four and a six in the same over as well. Before Tom Banton could do something, Siraj returned to nick off Banton and sent him back to the dugout. Again Siraj ended up his over with a maiden wicket.
While batting first, KKR struggled to go past the lowest-ever IPL total of 49 that they, incidentally, had bowled RCB out for in 2017, but thanks to skipper Eoin Morgan who scored 30, so that KKR could be managed to score 84 runs.
While chasing 85 runs RCB’s openers—Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch—had already notched 44 runs in the powerplay before Ferguson was brought on to bowl. Ferguson dismissed Finch almost immediately and enforced the run-out of Padikkal two balls later.
However, Virat Kohli and Gurkeerat Singh made short work of what was left, and RCB won with eight wickets to spare.
With the sensational victory of RCB against KKR, there might be a chance for RR, KXIP, and CSK to get into playoffs. RCB now jumped into the second position of the points table.
