The defending champion Mumbai Indians and the runners up Chennai Super Kings will battle in the IPL 2020 opener on September 19 in the UAE. On Sunday, the BCCI has finally announced the IPL 2020 schedule.
The two most successful IPL franchises, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings were played the final of the 2019 IPL last year.
The opening tournament of the IPL 2020 will be played in Abu Dhabi.
This year it is the 13th edition of the IPL. Due to the COVID pandemic, IPL will be played in three different venues in UAE those are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.
This year the entire IPL will be host by Dubai of 24 round-robin matches – the most, followed by Abu Dhabi (20) and Sharjah(12), and over the game, the play-offs will be announced, and the final match will take place on November 10.
After the first match, Dubai will host its first game on Sunday, where Delhi Capitals take on Kings XI Punjab and the third match on Monday between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The Full Schedule of IPL 2020
On Tuesday, September 22, IPL will shift to Sharjah, and the match will be played between Rajasthan Royals vs. Chennai Super Kings.
As per the timing schedule, there will be a doubleheader match at 3:30 PM IST and 2:00 PM UAE time, and all evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST and 6:00 PM UAE time.
All the eight franchises reached UAE in advance and as per the strict quarantine and bio-secure protocols. Chennai Super Kings had reported 13 Covid-19 cases, including their two cricketers.
Now CSK has cleared all the doubts after the final rounds of Covid-19 testing, and they are also seen practicing on nets on Friday. However, the Covid-19 positive players Deep Chahar and Ruturaja Gaikwad were kept in isolation. Once they test negative, they can resume training.
This will be the first time in IPL history that the entire IPL will be played in UAE. In 2014 due to general elections, the first half of the IPL was also played in UAE.
