Chennai Super Kings reached UAE in full flow with captain MS Dhoni and vice-captain Suresh Raina to prepare for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League.
Suddenly the CSK team got backfoot due to 13 personal of the team got tested COVID-19 positive, and Suresh Raina would have to return to India due to his Personal reasons.
Raina’s coming back to India made the team more backfoot. The team has to face a significant loss because Raina has been an integral part of its past success with consistent middle-order performances.
The CSK team management will have to deal with the absence of the Raina and have to find someone to hold the batting department together.
As far as Raina’s replacement concern Shane Watson said it would be hard to replace the batsman like Raina in the upcoming season due to his phenomenal record in the IPL.
On a YouTube show hosted by Nabeel Hashmi, Watson said, CSK has to deal with the absence of Raina and Harbhajan Singh. However, CSK has a lot of depth in batting, but it will be incredibly hard to replace Suresh Raina.
Raina is the second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli in IPL, and he played the most games in IPL history. He has got the record from everywhere in IPL; that is why he is called MR IPL.
Raina will be missed hugely as far as UAE pitches concern; there are more chances of wickets being drier and turning a bit more. Raina plays spin incredibly well, Watson said.
Although Watson doesn’t have a player in mind who could take Raina’s place, he feels Murali Vijay is a capable batsman who can do it.
Watson said, “No doubt Raina is a big loss, but CSK has a gun player like Murali Vijay. Although Murli Vijay has not got a lot of opportunities in the last few years, he is seriously a good batsman. This year he might get more opportunity.”
CSK is going to play the opening match of IPL on September 19 against defending champions Mumbai Indians.
