Leopard enters a court and disrupts the functioning in Ghaziabad

Today in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a leopard strayed into a neighbourhood court complex and attacked six persons. People scrambled for cover while lawyers barricaded themselves in rooms, causing chaos and uproar throughout the courthouse.On the microblogging service Twitter, images posted by users show some injured persons being removed from the court complex.In one of the videos, a man is shown lying on the ground with bite marks on his arm, and another man appears to have head wounds.

Ambulances rushed to the scene as soon as police had information and brought the injured individuals to the hospital. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Srivastav, “half a dozen persons have suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by the animal, which is still on the court grounds.” According to video obtained by AFP, cops wearing body armour were attempting to capture the animal by setting up nets inside the courthouse and brandishing burning torches. In the evening, the forest rangers managed to capture the leopard.

India is home to at least 12,000 leopards. They are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as a vulnerable species (IUCN).
