The second wave of COVID-19 in India is very clear from the daily stats. The second wave has various new variants of the corona virus like the SARS-CoV-2, E484Q, and L542R. India’s healthcare infrastructure is overstressed and on the verge of collapse for the rising COVID 19 cases. Over 1500 deaths are taking place every day. These deaths only seem to be numbered for a person until and unless he had lost one of its own!
The Positives From The Central And State Governments
In the alarming rise in the cases, both the central and the state authorities are putting their maximum efforts to keep the situation under control and let the people panic under these situations. India hit a peak of over three lakhs of COVID infections during the first wave in September-October 2020. On 24th April 2021, India saw its highest-ever spike in COVID cases with around 3.34 Lakh cases. Still, we are unknown if this is the highest spike or the infections will increase with more pace.

Maharashtra, being the most drastically hit state worldwide, continues o record the highest deaths, followed by Chattisgarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Till February 2021, people were granted much freedom from the lockdown norms and restrictions applied in 2020. The alarming rise in infections is due to a lack of adherence to COVID norms, people are not wearing masks, and Social distancing is just a myth. Also, there is a lack of implementation of the policies laid by the government towards containment measures. People are neglecting the adverse of the virus and are not following COVID –appropriate behavior in public places.
Various states and cities have announced night curfews and weekend – lockdowns to curb this fight against the second wave of novel coronavirus. Maharashtra has imposed night curfews from 6 pm to 6 am night curfew plus the weekend lockdown. Delhi also has imposed several restrictions like the night curfew and weekend lockdowns. All other states are imposing restrictions based on their surge of COVID infections. Officials are sending expert teams to places where cases are increasing drastically. Also, MHA(Ministry of Home Affairs) released that the main focus of the new protocols is to consolidate the substantial gains achieved in containing the spread of the virus.
Out of the blue, the government has still permitted all activities outside COVID-19 containment zones. But yes, the center is in contact with the state governments. The government is also looking towards the economy, which has just been better since January 2021. However, ironically, it is not concerned about the people who will boost the economy of the country. According to the press releases, the government may never impose a country lockdown. Still, yes, it has given authorities to the state government to impose restrictions in cities, districts, sub-districts, towns as needed.

However, if the central imposes strict restrictions or the state may apply more curfews. Still, if the people will not follow the protocols and wear masks, follow social distancing, there won’t be any decrease in the cases. Also, people should get vaccinated as early as possible and should not focus on the rumors. Instead, everyone should stay in and should go out only if necessary, keeping care of themselves and their family members.
