The former president of India Pranab Mukherjee was put on ventilator support on Monday soon after he underwent a surgery for removal of a clot from his brain in the Army Hospital. He was also tested positive for coronavirus.
“On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for Covid-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me last week, to self-isolate and get tested for Covid-19”, Mukherjee said.
The former President had a fall in the bathroom late Sunday night and had suffered several injuries on the forehead and temple. Some neurological issues had developed. Though there was an absence of skull fracture, CT scan suggested a blood clot.
Pranab Mukherjee is 86 years old, was the president of India between 2012-2017. A known hypertensive with a history of heart disease. Mukherjee had taken all precautions during the Pandemic and limited the number of meetings.
“Former President Pranab Mukherjee underwent brain surgery for removal of a clot at the Army’s R and R Hospital. He is critical and has been put on ventilator support. Had he been tested negative for Covid-19, he would not have had the need for ventilator support,” as sources confirmed to PTI.
Rajnath Singh, the defence minister visited the Army Hospital and inquired about the former president’s health on Monday. Randeep Surjewala, the Congress chief spokesman wished the president a speedy recovery on his twitter handle.
Abhijeet Mukherjee, the former Presidents son also tweeted about his father’s speedy recovery and pleaded the nation to pray for him on his twitter handle. Several other such officials tweeted about the former president and forwarded their good wishes.
