Samarendu Mohanty, a farm scientist, Receives the World Rice Industry Award

It gives us great pleasure to present farm scientist Samarendu Mohanty with the “World Rice Industry Global Service Award” in recognition of his enormous contributions to the rice industry worldwide. On November 28–30, 2023, in Cebu, Philippines, during the World Rice Conference, he will be acknowledged.

Currently serving as the Asia Regional Director at the International Potato Center (CIP), Mohanty was previously a Principal Scientist and Program Leader at IRRI. In order to provide reliable information and data for the efficient operation of the market, he has been collaborating with the government and the rice sector. Additionally, he has been assisting farmers in numerous Asian nations to enhance their standard of living by implementing technology, creating seed systems, and establishing connections with markets. Mohanty’s current goal is to introduce and scale up low-cost apical rooted cutting potato seed production technology in order to sustainably intensify the rice-potato cropping system.

“The Rice Trader is a firm believer in recognizing individuals who contribute to the betterment of the global economy and our global society. The president of The Rice Trader, Jeremy Zwinger, said in a statement that Mohanty “exemplifies these traits, and we noted the many times he has given his own personal time to serve the industry on a multitude of levels.”
