Spepcial Measures For Health Safety Amid COVID-19 Scare For Odisha Hockey

With only one day till the start of the Hockey World Cup in Odisha, the state government has taken additional precautions to boost COVID-19 testing and surveillance in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, where the quadrennial event will be held. The giant international athletic event is expected to draw enormous audiences from around the country and overseas, despite a global rise in COVID-19 cases, and the health service has made intricate precautions for people’s protection. According to Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das, necessary preparations have been done to raise the COVID-19 testing in both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, where the Hockey World Cup matches will be played between January 13 and 29.

Special COVID-19 testing facilities have also been established within both cities’ stadiums, he added. Aside from that, testing facilities at Cuttack, where the inaugural function will be conducted on Wednesday, have been improved. For health safety and prevention of the spread of COVID at the event locations, the department has established walk-in testing facilities in all urban primary health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs) in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

Furthermore, plans have been made for the deployment of mobile health units, together with teams of physicians, to protect the health of both players and guests, he stated. A special team of physicians from Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital has been dispatched to Rourkela to monitor and manage the health aspects of the Hockey World Cup location. Ambulances and other medical services and equipment have also been made accessible around the stadiums.
