Accidents using road hypnosis have now become a significant issue. The State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has warned drivers and passengers about the rising frequency of incidents linked to road hypnosis. Most users are unaware that this is a medical problem. On highways, road hypnosis frequently happens at night. The driver’s mind enters a subconscious state even with their eyes open. We refer to this state as “road hypnosis.” The state of road hypnosis sets in after 2.5 hours of driving in one stretch. Even though the eyes are awake in this state, the brain is unable to recall or comprehend anything. Fifteen minutes before to an accident, drivers can not recognize or recognize anything. He does not even know how fast he is driving or how fast the front vehicle is moving.

Road hypnosis is one of the many reasons for accidents, according to accident statistics from the last few years. Based on the state’s accident data for 2023, rear-end collisions caused 2496 incidents, resulting in 1272 injuries and 1198 fatalities. Due to collisions with component vehicles, 639 traffic accidents resulted in 274 fatalities and 354 major injuries. In a similar vein, 763 accidents involving collisions with stationary objects resulted in 373 fatalities and 422 injuries. One of the many reasons for these deadly collisions is road hypnosis.

In view of this, awareness programs have been taken up by the State Transport Authority. During winters STA distributed Tea to the drivers coming from long distances. The State Transport Authority has issued a warning that explains how to prevent road hypnosis for drivers and other road users. It advises taking a brief break after two and a half hours of nonstop driving when traveling large distances. Give your face a good cleansing. After a quick stroll, take a five to six minute break. Sip coffee or tea to help you feel refreshed. Only begin the quest once you’ve had a total reset. When driving at night, exercise additional caution. In this sense, passengers as well as drivers should exercise caution. Observe the driver’s driving technique and issue warnings. When passengers nod off, there is a greater chance of sedation on the roads. In order to prevent accidents, both drivers and passengers should be aware of this.
