Today is the 75th Death Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who sacrificed his whole life to bring Independence of our country. He was a true Indian nationalist whose sole purpose was to serve his country.
Subhash Chandra Bose, who was born in Cuttack, earned many accomplishments in his entire life. His father, Janaki Nath Bose, was a famous lawyer, and Bose was an exceptional student with full of patriotic and Indian values.
He earned the honorific title ‘Netaji’ by the Indian soldiers of the Azad Hind Fauj or the Indian National Army in Germany and by the Indian & German officials in the Special Bureau of India in Berlin.
He even stood up for the unqualified Swaraj and the use of force against the British. He also became a labour leader and was elected president of the All India Trade union Congress in 1929-1931.
But the most mysterious fact about Bose was his death on 18th August 1945 when he died in the plane crash in Taihoku, Japanese Taiwan, now presently Taipei, Taiwan. There is much speculation from a specific section of society that he disappeared in the crash, and there is no accurate proof of his death.
Sayak Sen an individual issued an RTI application asking about Gumnami Baba, the identity that many people claim Netaji had taken up after surviving the plane crash. ‘Gumnami Baba’ was a sadhu died in Faizabad on 16th September 1985.
After his death, some people claim that Baba was none other than Netaji himself. The RTI also asked the whereabouts about Netaji’s body to the Government.
To which the Ministry of Home Affairs replied that after examining reports from several commissions, the Government has resolved Netaji had indeed died in the plane crash in 1945.
There was speculation that Netaji escapes the plane crash to the Soviet Union, and the Japanese intelligence agencies had hovered the theory so that Netaji Bose can securely flee to the Soviet Union.
Then the British proposed the Soviet authorities and commanded that they are allowed to interrogate Bose. It was during interrogation that he was tortured to death.
There were other theories that he evaded death and went out to live disguised and died in another way. Some said that Netaji lived as a Sanyasi in Uttar Pradesh, some said that he went to Naga Hills and lived there.
There was news that some people spotted him in Russia in the Chinese army in 1941 at Mahatma Gandhi’s funeral. Many cropped up pictures circulated that he was placed after 1945, but none practically proved that he survived the crash.
