India’s First Driverless Metro Train Is Estimated To Flag Off This Month

India’s first driverless metro train will be rolled out in Delhi later this month which is expected to flag off the landmark services on the Magenta Line -Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

As per the sources, a proposal has been sent to the PM Modi’s office to flag off the driverless train on 25th December as on that day the Delhi metro will be completing 18 years of operation. Due to which all efforts are made to inaugurate the driverless trains to go on run on that particular day. 

The first Delhi metro was started commercially on 25th December 2002 by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who is an 8.2 Kilometre stretch from Shahdara to Tiz Hazari. Right now the Delhi Metro has ten lines with 242 stations where the average passengers are estimated to 26 lakhs.

The drivers will be appointed to operate the trains before they are slowly withdrawn to switch completely to Unattended Train Operation (UTO). A DMRC official stated that the new generation trains are very much suitable to run on UTO mode and the train operator is not required to operate at all. The Operations Control Centres (OCC) of the Delhi Metro system will directly regulate the movement of the trains.

As per further details, the driver fewer trains will have six coaches with many advanced features and eco-friendly upgrades which will increase the comfort of the passengers. The trains are designed for a maximum speed of 95 kmph and operational speed of 85 kmph.
