Dr Sasmit Patra, BJD MP of Rajya Sabha
In a rare humanitarian gesture, Sasmit Patra(Patra doles out funds to counter Covid-19 challenge), BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP has generously contributed his salary for four months to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. The amount pledged is over and above Rs two crore which Patra has set aside from his MP Local Area Development Fund.
Patra says he is heavenly inspired from the benevolent leadership of his party supremo and Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
While Patra(Patra doles out funds to counter Covid-19 challenge) has donated Rs one crore from his MPLAD fund to the central government, the balance Rs one crore is committed for Mayurbhanj constituency that got him elected to the Upper House.
“I hereby provide an allocation of Rs one crore from my MPLAD fund to my nodal district Mayurbhanj in order to address the challenges in the fight against Corona Virus (COVID-19). As discussed telephonically with you, kindly apprise me of the requisite healthcare requirements so that we can proceed with the release of funds. I take this opportunity to thank you, the entire district administration, the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, police personnel, press and media representatives and all those government and non-government personnel and agencies who are doing such a tremendous service to the people of Mayurbhanj at this critical juncture”, Patra said in his letter to Vineet Bhardwaj, collector & district magistrate, Mayurbhanj.
Sasmit Patra(Patra doles out funds to counter Covid-19 challenge) is a vocal spokesperson for the BJD who has articulated the party’s standpoint in the Rajya Sabha on an array of issues.
He(Patra doles out funds to counter Covid-19 challenge) is also a brilliant academician with glittering credentials. An MBA topped with PHD (Allahabad), Patra has served as an Associate Professor at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB). He has taught on organisational behaviour and human resource management.
His areas of research interest include Cross-cultural human resource management, the impact of culture on organisational decision-making, internationalization of business education, anthropological perspectives in management.
