Mr. Ali kishore Patnaik started with a Diesel Engine Overhauling and Service unit with only 3 employees in 1992. Then he slowly expanded the business through forward & backward integration of related services, such as, repair of Construction & Mining Equipment, Diesel Generators, Fishing Trawlers, etc.
Now they are Sales, Service & Spare Dealers for the three reputed brands of Automobile and Material handling equipment.
i) Ashok Leyland : Heavy Vehicles (Trucks & Buses)
ii) FORCE Motors : Commercial Vehicles for Tour & Travel, School Buses, and Ambulances
iii) KION India : Voltas & OM Brand Forklifts.
Mr. Patnaik opines, while working with Ashok Leyland, he has gained expertise & knowledge about the repair of diesel engines. He then moved to NALCO for plant based job , to get away from highly touring job of Ashok Leyland.
During his tenure at Nalco, he found that Diesel Engines were being sent to Hyderabad for Repair & Overhaul, because no reliable vendor was available in Odisha.
He saw a big opportunity in this difficulty of NALCO and started his own enterprise by using his Skill and Expertise.
We all know, every successful business has to have a winning strategy.
The stalwart Mr. Patnaik had an amazing strategy before setting up his unique service setup.
He says, there was a big gap in demand & supply for overhaul/ repair service of Diesel Engines in Odisha.
When he began, the repair and overhaul of a Diesel Engine used to take 20 to 30 days. However, by improved & innovated process, repair time was brought down to 15 days, then to 7 days, and finally to 24 Hours.
Because of such Reliable Repair,Timely Delivery at a Reasonable Cost, he started getting Annual Contracts and expanded business over the years, by opening branches at various industrial locations.
ALLEGIANCE & HARDWORK-
For about 20 years of starting the business, he put in above 16 hours every day and created employment for 250 people directly & 250 more, indirectly.
During the journey, he developed and groomed a pool of extremely competent Technicians to serve his customers.
CHALLENGES & HARDSHIPS DURING THE JOURNEY :
In 1999, Mr. Patnaik met with a car accident that left him hospitalized for a long period and caused a significant loss to his business. Further damage was done by super cyclone of 1999. No matter how many times he lost, he always managed to bounce back through sheer hardwork and perseverance.
A significant disruption is imminent. Our area of expertise in engines, will soon become obsolete.
Electric Vehicles and Green Energy are the future. So, to survive, we have to diversify, maybe to downstream industries in Aluminum or Steel,” says Mr. Patnaik.
