Back in 1976, Om Oil and Flour Mills Ltd., with an initial investment of Rs. 5,000, laid the foundation for what would evolve into the global brand known as Ruchi Foods today. It was here, in the bustling streets of Cuttack, that the seeds of quality and innovation were sown. Ruchi Atta, the company’s initial offering, swiftly gained popularity, heralding the dawn of Ruchi’s commitment to excellence.

 

Dr. Sarat Kumar Sahoo, the visionary behind this odyssey, envisioned the growth of Indigenous spices to the world market. His story mirrors the resilience of the company he built. Born into a middle-class family in Cuttack, Sarat’s journey began in his father’s tiny eatery. Despite setbacks, including the demolition of their eatery in 1974, Sarat’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through.

With a foundation built on hard work, honesty, and an unwavering commitment to quality, Ruchi ventured into spices in 1980 and evolved into a Public Limited company in 1997. The company’s journey was marked by resilience, weathering setbacks such as the demolition of its first eatery in 1974 and the devastating super-cyclone in 1999.

However, Ruchi didn’t merely survive; it thrived. The establishment of the Ruchi Food Craft Institute and the launch of Frozit ready-to-heat-and-eat food items in 2013 showcased the company’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Sarat Kumar Sahoo, undeterred by past setbacks, envisioned Ruchi Foods venturing into the soft drinks market, emphasizing a commitment to staying at the forefront of industry trends. His aim was not just business success but also creating a legacy that inspires the next generation of entrepreneurs from Odisha.

 

Driven by the indomitable spirit of its founder, Ruchi Foods became synonymous with quality, innovation, and a commitment to Odia and Indian tastes. Today, with a turnover of Rs. 300 crore and over 3 million satisfied customers across 7 countries, Ruchi Foods has carved a niche for itself.

Director Arbind Sahoo and Director Rashmi Sahoo, following in their father’s footsteps, have propelled the brand name RUCHI to even greater heights. Beyond revolutionizing the food processing segment in Odisha, RUCHI has significantly impacted thousands of women’s lives by providing employment opportunities.

 

The Frozit line, acclaimed globally for its innovation, hygiene standards, and diverse offerings, now serves an array of dishes, from traditional Odia foods like Biryani, Poda Pitha, and Kheer to international favourites like Pasta and Mughlai Chicken.
