According to officials, enterprises other than KPOs and BPOs would be able to operate continuously in the national Capital, including hotels, restaurants, and eateries as well as online delivery services for food, medications, logistics, and other necessities. VK Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will soon provide permission for more than 300 businesses to operate 24/7 on Sundays.

The choice will also give the city’s much-desired “night life” a boost. By granting exemption under Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Delhi Shops & Establishment Act, 1954, it is anticipated to increase the creation of jobs and foster the favourable business climate needed for economic growth.

“Of the total 346 pending applications, the Labour Department failed to handle 18 applications from 2016, 26 applications from 2017, 83 applications from 2018, 25 applications from 2019, four applications from 2020, and 74 applications from 2021 on schedule.

In a show of unexplained discretion on the part of the Labour Department, these applications were kept on hold despite the fact that only two applications—one from 2017 and another from 2021—were processed and sent for approval. This strongly suggested the prevalence of corrupt practises, according to the L-G Secretariat official.Such petitions must be handled in a timely manner, the LG ruled, in order to promote a business- and investor-friendly atmosphere in the city.

The 300+ businesses in the nation’s capital will be able to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week starting next week.
