Manish Maheshwari, Managing Director of Twitter India has been booked by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the case over a distorted map of India on Twitter.
According to the official reports, the FIR was lodged at the Khurja Nagar police station in Bulandshahr district on 28 June on the basis of a complaint by an office-bearer of right-wing Bajrang Dal.
Manish has been booked in connection with a case over a distorted map of India on the micro-blogging platform. The map, which showed the Union Territories of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir outside India, was noticed on 28 June, leading to an uproar by netizens.
After that, Twitter removed that map by the evening and along with that Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari, the FIR names News Partnerships Head Amrita Tripathi as accused who have been booked under Indian Penal Code section 505 (2) (public mischief).
Charges under Information Technology Act section 74 -a publication for the fraudulent purpose have also been invoked in the case, according to the FIR.
