Uttar Pradesh Cabinet passes ordinance on Love Jihad. The ordinance was passed at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. According to the ordinance, anyone who converts to false religion will face up to 10 years in prison. In addition, the district attorney must be notified two months in advance for conversion.
The Uttar Pradesh government has said it will introduce new rules on love jihad. This can reduce the risk of marriage through greed, threats, etc. Uttar Pradesh Minister Siddharth Nath Singh, meanwhile, said the ordinance carries a fine of Rs 15,000 for conversion and a sentence of 1 to 5 years in prison. If such incidents occur with minors or women under SSC4 and SST, the culprit faces a fine of Rs 25,000 and a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison.

The main reason for the need for such an ordinance is that more than 100 such cases have been reported in a few days. Of those, religion was converted through deception and intimidation, the minister said. The district attorney’s office must be notified two months in advance if he or she agrees to convert. Failure to do so could result in a fine of up to Rs 10,000 for a term of imprisonment of 6 months to 3 years.
