For the November 2020 presidential election in the United States of America, Trump competitor and Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party Joe Biden issued the policy statement.
Policy statement in more straightforward terms means the possible reforms and policies the party would implement after coming into the majority.
In its statement, they mentioned India and promised to prioritise every relationship with the largest democracy of the world. This move comes after they realised the significant role the Indian-American community plays in any significant state election.
Not to forget, Trump out of the blue, joined the “Howdy Modi” rally in Houston, which primarily was hosted and attended by 50,000 Indian-Americans. His address has spoken volumes about the strength of the Indian community.
Warned Pakistan, without talking its name
The Biden administration roped in support for ending and controlling the South Asia cross border terrorism. His unnamed warning has sent a strong message to Pakistan that either Biden or Trump, both stand firm against the radical terrorism, Pakistan stands for. India time to time has presented proofs of the involvement of Pakistani terrorist organisation in various cross border terrorism activities to the world.
China will be kept in check
The policy statement mentioned China which promised to check & reform the policies and agreements around the Indian Ocean. It also said the recent outburst against the Chinese government for being violent to its neighbouring countries and promised to do everything they can to keep it in check, “No country is able to threaten its neighbours with impunity”, the policy statement said.
H1-B Visa Reforms
Past has witnessed several dilemmas and conflicts between India and the US for the H1-B visa. This is the first time any party has stated their point of view and come term to term in dealing with it. The mention of high skills holders of H-1B visa and their involvement will be valued, and particular focus would be there on keeping their families with them.
The document also focused on the equal involvement of Indian-Americans in the Biden Administration. “Our government will reflect the diversity of the United States, and Indian American voices will be included in shaping the policies that impact their communities”, the document said.
Biden love for India
The love and support for India are not new, Biden in 2006 already had predicted the two closed countries in 2020 would be India and America. The Obama-Biden Administration did support India’s claim to get the permanent security council seat at the United Assembly. Not to forget it was Biden who led other senators to back up the India-US nuclear deal.
The 2020 election could swing either way, but we should take pride in the fact, India is playing an essential role in formulating policies before the US Presidential election. India is getting it’s due recognition and importance with the incredible diplomatic relations as PM Modi has carved out of the impossibilities and sheer hard work.
