Bollywood actress Vidya Balan took an initiative in support of “ATMANIRBHAR BHARAT” by wearing an Indian hand-woven saree from Odisha (Sambalpur) for her upcoming film’s promotion.
While doing the e-promotion of her upcoming film ‘Shakuntala Devi’ she wore a black Sambalpuri saree with mathematical equations printed all over it.
Her movie ‘Shakuntala Devi’ which releases on the OTT Platform is about the real-life personality -Shakuntala Devi who was known as the Indian human-computer because of immense talent. She earned a place in 1982 edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.
In the video message, she is giving her heartfelt appreciation to the Odisha (Sambalpuri) artisans. She said that “I am delighted to wear this saree on the eve of the release of the movie. We are all going through hard times but this too shall pass. Keep the faith and please do take care of yourself. You all are very precious to us. God bless you”.
The saree she wore is hand-woven by Mr Ramakant Meher of Odisha‘s Sonepur district. In her official Instagram handle, Vidya flaunted her stylish black Sambhalpuri bandha saree by Bhubaneswar-based Utkalamrita and her look was completed with star-shaped earrings and hair tied into a bun.
Talking more about the local Odia sambalpuri saree she further wrote it was woven over a period of one month with mulberry Bangalore silk yarn at Kendupali in Sonepur district, Odisha and also thanked Ramakant Meher, the artist behind these creations.
Last year Vidya shrines with many successful Box-office collections and critically claimed movies like Mission Mangal, and Tumari sulu.
In the time of the COVID-19 crisis, she also made it a part of the ongoing ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign being promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
