ANS: Beginning his passion for handloom is looking at the weaves of Odisha that anybody would fall in love. Sabyasachi satpathy depth knowledge about different variations of weaving in Odisha, Talking about “BANDHA” work to “IKKAT” work. His extensive thoughts about Odisha handlooms and passion for inspiring others. Satpathy’s desired to represent the Odisha handlooms with a contemporary touch.
Sabyasachi Satpathy brings an Excellence innovative thoughts from his mother’s wasted sarees, started working on it. In 1995,His effort of qualified the Entrance exam at NIFT, but Sabyasachi disqualified In the interview Exam at the center of Delhi. In addition to his fashion designing career , sabyasachi satpathy ‘s patience were commendable. he started learning designing from neighborhood tailor, Throughout out the process, he gathered his knowledge, where his passion meets profession, encouraging every individuals to create their own paths.
Talking About innovations thoughts and ideas ,Do you design the products as per your preferences or you design the products as per market trends?
ANS: There are two different things, I don’t have to go to the market trends, because it is something which is came from established designers, Designers which approves by general public, because all the fashionable outfit, that everyone cannot wear, so generally I do wearable other is contemporary that up bit in the market and I add my own imagination to create designs and all, so lot of people come with the ideas, we cannot carry lots of fashionable wardrobe for them, whatever is wearable ,what ever is simple, they can Handel, I make those for them and there are other designs I made on different kinds of fabric, not only handlooms of Odisha, I have tried to made fabric from banana hemp, from bamboo fiber, I have made things from jute when we can have talk about organic eating, sitting habits ,all the habits from cosmetic to food, so why not organic in our wearable, fashionable, flax seeds plabt fabric linen, fabric jute we are using cotton we are using, All from Natural, Then Talking about unnatural, man-made thing, But still we have plant bases now the technology become so good, that we started making natural based fiber, why not that? I am working on that handlooms and handloom made out of those fibers, these are very soothing to wear and trending too, although its expensive, but I tried to mix them with different weaves ,I tried to mixed them with my prints, I tried to make different outfits for different kind of people.
If I will talk about the responsibility towards society? Would you like to share how your organization support the weavers community across the Odisha?
There are lots of people, who try to adopt villagers, there is CSR happening by the companies, who helps the weavers and all, weaver they get money from CSR Project or lots of people, who adopt the villagers and come people take it out, and exhibit and sell them all, but I don’t try and sell what I do is ii make outfits out of their weaves, where people sell saree, saree is not only a fashionable thing, so tried best to make contemporary outfits, so I help the weavers by getting their weaves ,so I try and make fashionable and contemporary outfits ,I have show coming up in Italy, and show in a Paris, So basically handlooms is not only in kurta and pyjamas ,saree or shirt. You can have the best in handlooms. My main objectives is to help the weavers directly or indirectly, so if I don’t buy, somebody else will buy.so buying them and not keeping the old stock with them and giving them new patterns is my passion, I try to help them with that.
During your entrepreneur journey, is there any particular time. or any particular period which turned out so challenging for you?
Challenging for a designer in Odisha is the market, and other one is finances, you keep on investing your money, you keep in rotating your money, you keep on doing things from your own pockets, A designer never been a profession as per the govt gadget, until and unless the central govt recognize fashion designing as an industry, so a lot of people wearing fashionable cloths, but nobody pushing the designers. In Odisha, we have lots of designing institutes, now many established designers, if you realize how a designers making unimaginable outfits? So, Basically i am working on farm to fashion ,farm which consists of natural fiber fabric from that to yawn fabric, making the design to making outfits brings pressure, but yes, buying fabric from shops available, cut patterns and call themselves a designers, It doesn’t worth it. If you are creative & designers. you are supposed to give a design to a fabric first, then the outfit and everything. The problem is, now –a-days the Govt not supporting the fashion designers fraternity ,what ever we have. Not giving any kind of facilities to NIFT, Its gong worsen now-a-days.
What is your vision to see Odisha in the upcoming years
As an for myself and others the govt of Odisha, Hon’ble CM. Naveen Patnaik has been taking a step to make in Odisha, we are having this business conclave, lots of business houses are coming up and showcasing their Art, craft, culture Development, Technology, But I haven’t seen anything for fashion that happened, i want to see a future for Odisha fashion that Odisha govt should give them lots of challenges, so from industries to industrialists to be made, sports outfit to be made ,so there should be more wearing facilities more designing facilities. there should be govt outlets for the cloths we design to be sold.so this thing can push lots of enterprises to think about Odisha for handlooms and all the stuffs.
What are your upcoming plans, Objectives with Keembadanti Group?
Goals for my organization is, My Future, future is now, future is tomorrow. If I don’t planning for tomorrow, as on date, day, it doesn’t work. Currently I am working on different methodology, getting things done, I am printing sarees and fabrics in silk with IKKAT, floral and other stuffs, Also I am trying to working different natural fiber, But I am taking my step slowly ,because no such helps from Govt. But we will grow more work forever, we like to get recognition all over the world again and again.
