When Vyjayanthimala referred to her relationship with Raj Kapoor as a “publicity stunt,”

Many years after she had worked with Raj Kapoor, Vyjayanthimala had refuted the rumours about their relationship. But the late Raj Kapoor’s son had a different interpretation of the events. Rumors that Vyjayanthimala and Raj Kapoor were seeing one other were rampant when the two were cast in his 1964 film Sangam. The incident supposedly led to a major schism in the Kapoor family because Raj Kapoor was already married and had children at the time. However, the Devdas actor insisted that the rumours about their romance were completely untrue. Vyjayanthimala said that RK was “much too enthusiastic of obtaining notoriety and snatching the headlines” in her memoir Bonding… A Memoir. And that included the gossip that I was seeing him romantically.
