Today, the State Heritage Cabinet resolved to hold the inaugural three-day “World Odia Language Conference” in February 2024 in Bhubaneswar, the state capital. An official statement states that the conference was scheduled in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet meeting that took place on December 26, 2017, and was chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The statement stated that the “World Odia Language Conference” will be held at the state, national, and international levels in accordance with the decision.
The statement also stated that speakers at the conference’s subject-specific sessions will be invited linguists and language experts of national and international renown. According to the statement, there will be a large participation of students from all around the state in this conference. The youth’s admiration of the Odia language will receive special attention. Universities and other educational establishments will host programs appropriate to their level during this conference.
The purpose of this conference is to accelerate research on the Odia language and its promotion both within and outside of the state. Aside from this, the statement went on to say that the conference would foster respect for the mother tongue and its overall development while preserving its identity for future generations.
