13,373 Police Posts Vacant In Odisha Says CM Majhi

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told the Odisha Assembly on Monday that the police department had 13,373 open positions. There are also 862 openings in prisons and sub-jails around the state, 2,416 in the Home Guard force, and 481 in the Fire Service Department. In order to bolster the state’s security apparatus, the Chief Minister promised that measures are being implemented to fill these jobs through selection and promotion procedures.

Majhi gave an update on anti-Maoist activities, stating that between January 2014 and November 2024, 11 security officers were killed in skirmishes and 123 Maoists were killed in encounters. In the same time frame, 336 Maoists gave up.

The state’s objective to be rid of Maoist influence by 2026 was reaffirmed by the chief minister. In order to do this, Central Security Forces, Odisha Police, and police forces from other states have closely coordinated to step up anti-Maoist operations in the impacted districts. The Central Intelligence Bureau, the State Intelligence Wing, and nearby state agencies have also improved their intelligence-sharing. Majhi underlined that Maoist actions are being closely monitored and that in order to further undermine their influence in the state, operations are being customized based on real-time intelligence.
