Two workers were on Saturday killed in a major explosion while laying a gas pipeline near Sunalti under Itamati police limits in Nayagarh district. Three others have been critically injured in the mishap. The injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here. The deceased have been identified as Sonu and Vijay Ganguly. They are natives of Maharashtra. The injured are also from places outside the State.
According to reports, the explosion occurred during the laying of a gas pipeline by GAIL when the compressor used for cleaning the pipeline suddenly exploded. A private company laying the gas pipeline on behalf of GAIL had engaged workers from outside the state. Itamati police have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.
