After their bus collided with a vehicle on NH-16 in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday, at least 20 Nepalese pilgrims and one person from Uttar Pradesh suffered injuries, according to authorities. The 61-passenger bus collided from behind with a halted truck on the national highway close to Talanagar, inside the boundaries of the Soro Police Station. The passenger car was traveling from Kolkata to Puri when it collided.
Around 5 am, a tourist bus collided with a truck carrying chrome ore that was parked close to a dhaba, according to Balasore Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sasanka Sekhar Beura. Twenty pilgrims from Nepal who were riding in the bus were among the 21 individuals who were hurt. According to him, the Nepalese pilgrims were released from the hospital after treatment and all the injured persons were brought to Soro Hospital. As his health worsened, the bus driver was eventually sent to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore, according to the SDPO.
The tourist bus is registered in Uttar Pradesh and the driver hails from that state, the officer said. The local police made arrangements for food and water for the passengers and took steps to send them to their destination, he said.
