22-Year-Old CPI (Maoist) Member Surrenders in Odisha’s Kalahandi District

BHUBANESWAR: A 22-year-old woman associated with the outlawed CPI (Maoist) laid down her arms before the police in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday. Identified as Debe Sari, alias Geeta, she was a member of the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh division of the Maoist organization.

According to Deputy Inspector General (SWR) Niti Sekhar, Geeta hails from Sukma in Chhattisgarh. She initially joined the Chitra Natya Mandali in 2018, an organization linked to the Maoists, before fully integrating into the banned CPI (Maoist) group.

After spending three years working with the Maoists in Chhattisgarh, Geeta was sent to Odisha in 2022, where she continued her activities. Before her surrender, she was particularly active in the Boudh district of Odisha, as reported by DIG Sekhar.

Geeta is alleged to have been involved in five separate gunfights with the police – one in Nuapada district and three in Boudh. Her role within the Maoist ranks largely revolved around providing first aid to injured Maoists during these encounters.
