Hockey India announced that three players from Odisha have bagged spots in the 22-member team for FIH Hockey India Pro League matches. Birendra Lakra, Amit Rohidas, and Shilanand Lakra are the three Odia players picked for the FIH Hockey India Pro League.
As per the accouchement of Hockey India, the Indian Men’s Hockey team will get on Olympic Champions Argentina in the FIH Hockey Pro League matches on April 11 and 12 in Buenos Aires. On April 6 and 7 the Indian Team will play two practise matches against the home team and the Pro League will be accompanied by two more practice matches on April 13 and 14 as a part of their arrangements for the Tokyo Olympic Games in July.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated all the three selected players through Twitter by quoting- “Congratulate hockey players from #Odisha, Birendra Lakra, Amit Rohidas & Shilanand Lakra for making it to 22 members Indian squad for the FIH Hockey Pro League matches to be played against Argentina between 11- 12 April in Buenos Aires. Best wishes to the team.”
The three selected Odia players will be playing their first international match in over a year. Along with them the whole team – P R Sreejesh, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, Amit Rohidas, Gurinder Singh, Harmanpreet Singh (vice-captain), Surender Kumar, Rupinderpal Singh, Varun Kumar, Birendra Lakra, Jaskaran Singh, Hardik Singh, Manpreet Singh (captain), Vivek Sagar Prasad, Raj Kumar Pal, Sumit, Nilakanta Sharma, Shamsher Singh, Gurjant Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, and Shilanand Lakra will leave for Buenos Aires on March 31 for the 16-day tour from Bengaluru following the mandatory RT-PCR tests within 72 hours before their departure.
