A fire on Wednesday destroyed about 300 quintals of paddy that were stacked in a thrashing yard at Bagpada in Uchala village under Golamunda tahasil in Kalahandi district.
Paddy from six or seven farmers was reportedly piled up in the thrashing yard. For some reason that has not yet been determined, a fire suddenly started in the paddy stack that was kept in the thrashing yard.
The residents’ attempts to put out the fire were ineffective. Afterwards, firefighters hurried to the scene after learning of the situation and put out the fire.
But by the time the fire was put out, the stack’s paddy had burned to almost 80 percent ashes.
