Justice NV Ramana was sworn in as the country’s 48th Chief Justice. Justice Ramna was sworn in today after Justice Sharad Chandra Bobade retired from the post yesterday. President Ramnath Kobind administered the oath of office to Justice Ramna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh were also present. The swearing-in ceremony was held in accordance with the Covid Protocol.

Their family is usually present when someone is sworn in as chief justice. However, it was decided by the Presidential Palace that a small number of people would be present for the coup.

Traditionally, judges of the Supreme Court and other high courts are also present when the CJI is sworn in. However, as many Supreme Court justices have been infected with Covid this time around, there are reports that only judges with negative reports were present at the ceremony.

Ramana, from a farming family, holds a bachelor’s degree in science and law. He then practiced law in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Central Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court. He also served as a panel member for state government agencies
