Pipili by-election postponed again due to resurge in COVID infection

Pipili by-election has postponed again. The much-awaited Pipili by-election was set to take place on the 16th. The decision was taken by the Election Commission as the number of corona infections in the country and the state is on the rise. The Election Commission has postponed the by-elections in two constituencies in West Bengal, including Pipili.

According to a statement issued by the Election Commission, the by-elections in Pipili and West Bengal in Odisha have been postponed. The West Bengal election results were released on Sunday. Earlier, two candidates from Jangipur and Samsarganj died of Covid 19. There was to be a by-election. The Election Commission has reportedly decided to postpone the by-elections as corona infections are on the rise in the country and in West Bengal. However, the date of the Sani date will be announced once the corona outbreak subsides, the statement said.

It is learned that the Pipili by-election was set to be held on May 16th. The result was to declared on May 19th. The election date was moved from May 13 due to Eid-ul-Fitr.

Earlier, voting for the by-elections was scheduled for April 17 following the death of the late Pradeep Maharathi. But the Pipili by-election was postponed after the death of Congress candidate Ajit Mangraj in Corona. The Chief Electoral Officer set a date for the by-elections on May 13 to give the Congress candidate at least 15 days to campaign. But due to Eid-ul-Fitr on May 13, the polls would be held again on May 16, the Chief Electoral Officer said. But once again, the Pipili by-election has been postponed.
