In 2024, there will be 103 MLAs running again for the Odisha Assembly. An examination of the self-sworn affidavits of 103 MLAs who are re-contesting in five years (2019-2024) by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Odisha Election Watch was released on Monday, and it showed that the average percentage gain in assets for these candidates is 73%.
The ADR research also showed that in 2019, the 103 MLAs who were re-contesting and were fielded by different parties, including independents, had an average asset value of Rs 4.51 crore; by 2024, that asset value had increased to Rs 7.80 crore.
Additionally, the 103 MLAs who are up for re-election have seen an average asset growth of Rs 3.29 crore between the Odisha Assembly Elections of 2019 and 2024.
