On July 26, the Orissa High Court will have been in existence for 75 years. On Monday, a High Court bench is anticipated to issue 75 verdicts in one day prior to this historic event. According to sources, this extraordinary achievement will make the High Court’s 75th anniversary festivities very unforgettable. These rulings will be issued by a division bench made up of Justices Debabrata Dash and Sanjeev Kumar Panigrahi.
It should be remembered that the Orissa High Court was founded at Cuttack on July 26, 1948. Since January 2, 2014, the court’s operations have been conducted in a new, seven-story structure next to the previous one. A big conclusion will be staged on July 26 following a year of wonderful celebrations, and President Draupadi Murmu will be in attendance.
Prior to this, the division bench of Justice Dash and Dr. Justice Panigrahi would issue rulings in 75 criminal appeals that have been on hold for around seven years and which were filed in opposition to the decisions of the state’s sessions courts in murder cases under section 302 of the IPC. According to reports, all of these appeals had been heard as of June 21, 2023. This is viewed as a noble contribution to the High Court’s encouraging action at a time when the Indian court has been developing new techniques, creating new instruments, and inventing new ways to bring justice to the ordinary man.
The President expressed grave concern about the issue of the lengthy pendency of criminal appeals in her address on Constitution Day in New Delhi, to the great suffering of a large number of people lodged in jails, whose Trials and Appeals are not disposed of within a reasonable time despite being promised by the Constitution. This commendable action of delivering 75 judgments before the celebration of this great institution’s 75 years of journey is a fitting tribute to that grave concern. This incredible accomplishment not only provides this wonderful school another feather in its head but also delivers genuine color and flavour on the celebration day of completion of its 75th year.
