Odisha Excise Dept Makes Record Seizures, Arrests In 2022-23 Fiscal

During the fiscal year 2022–2023, the Odisha Excise Department made a record number of seizures and arrests. This was disclosed after the department’s monthly review meeting, which was held here on Sunday and presided over by Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Singh to assess the revenue collection and enforcement efforts. According to the officials, the Excise Department has prioritized enforcement efforts, and as a result, in the fiscal year 2022–2023, the number of instances discovered and bootleggers arrested grew significantly.

The department reported a record number of 61,377 cases for the fiscal year 2022–23, up from 40,598 instances during the fiscal year 2021–22, a 51% increase. 25,065 instances in total were reported in 2021–22.

In comparison to the previous fiscal year, which had 33,551 arrests, a record 49,211 people were made in 2022–23, a 47% rise. Only 19,239 people were arrested in 2020–2021.
