Sanjay Mittal, the secretary of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCORS), visited Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena as a courtesy. Amitabh Thakur, the transport commissioner, was also present. The Secretary of SCCORS expressed his satisfaction with the continued efforts being made by the Government of Odisha to promote road safety. He acknowledged his satisfaction with the actions made by the Police, Health Department, and Department of Transportation regarding Road Safety initiatives.
However, he voiced his disappointment with the NHAI’s callous approach. He asked the Chief Secretary to become involved in this situation.
Chief Secretary PK Jena advised the Transport Commissioner for:
- Training of Engineers on road engineering from Block level to urban bodies by an export team.
- Sensitization of Auto Drivers and control the increase of Autos catering Bhubaneswar.
- Awareness in Schools and colleges by experts particularly in PTM Day.
- Roadside PHC, and CHC to be trained on TCC.
- At least 10 boys of the Roadside villages are to be trained by the Red Cross /St John First Aid Team so that the accident victims will be taken proper care.
- Annual Conclave of Road Safety volunteers should be made to encourage the people and awareness will be spread.
