During “Chapa Khela,” the throng was hit by firecracker sparks during the important Chandan Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri on Wednesday evening, resulting in over 15 devotees suffering burn injuries. There are apparently some youngsters among the injured. The hospital in the Puri district headquarters has admitted every one of them. According to reports, some of the devotees had severe burns.
During the heavenly Chapa Khela ceremonies, the incident happened when worshippers detonated firecrackers in the Narendra Puskarini in the pilgrim town. The audience gathered at the pond to see the firecrackers’ sparks hit the sacred ceremony. In the holy pond of Devi Ghat, the crackers burst.
