The deadline for lift irrigation customers to pay their past-due energy bills has been loosened by the Odisha government. In a press statement issued by the Vidhan Sabha, Barchana MLA Amar Nayak, Bhubaneswar Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, and Bijay Dal Behera stated that they met with Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo on Wednesday in his chamber. They suggested that, in the best interests of the farmers, the time limit for lift irrigation customers to pay their arrear electricity bills during the current Kharif season be extended.
In this regard, Singh Deo had conversations with the power distribution firms (Discoms) and the director of the Agriculture Department. All lift irrigation users are now recommended to pay their monthly electricity costs. Discoms have consented to accept instalment payments for unpaid electricity bills. Customers of Lift Irrigation have up to eight instalment options for paying down their outstanding electricity bills between August 2024 and March 2025.
According to Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo, the primary goal of this action is to guarantee that customers have financial freedom while maintaining an uninterrupted supply of electricity. Customers are asked to get in touch with Discom’s customer support centre or by calling its toll-free number, 1912, for further information.
