Similipal Tiger Reserve To Reopen For Tourists On Oct 10

According to a notice sent on Monday by STR Field Director Prakash Chandra Gogineni, the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in the Mayurbhanj district is scheduled to open to tourists once more on October 10. Because of the beginning of the rainy season, the area has been closed to visitors since June 12.

The Field Director had previously issued a notice informing visitors that the reserve would be closed from June 12 to September 30 in order to protect their safety, as heavy rains frequently cause road connection issues within the park. The precise reopening date, nevertheless, was supposed to be established closer to the event and announced in regional publications. The ecotourism complexes at Jamuani, Gurudia, Kumari, Barehipani, and Ramtirtha were available to visitors throughout the shutdown period, while access to the tiger reserve itself was restricted.

Every year, the reserve forbids tourists from entering beyond mid-June because the monsoon rains make many of the interior routes inaccessible. This year’s reopening of the reserve is slated for early in October, despite the fact that it typically occurs in the first week of November.
